Doctor:	The Ninth	The ninth Doctor wears a leather jacket and has short hair and big ears. He has a love of life, as well as a sadness about him. His home planet of Gallifrey was destroyed in a war.
Companions:	Rose Tyler	Rose Tyler is a 19-year old girl from London c.2005. In Rose (Series 1), she was working in Henrik's department store when the ninth Doctor was investigating Auton activity in the store, and blew it up. In the events that followed this, Rose helped the Doctor defeat the Nestene Consciousness's attempt to take over the world, and he offered her a chance to travel in the TARDIS, leaving behind her mum, Jackie, and boyfriend Mickey. In The End of the World (Series 1), the Doctor took her to the far future to see the day the Earth is destroyed. During this trip, he upgraded her mobile phone, tying it into the TARDIS, so that she can call home no matter where or when she is.
Recurring Characters:	The United Nations Intelligence Taskforce	UNIT is a paramilitary organisation set up by the United Nations to deal with alien incursions and other hi-tech and mysterious threats and situations. The Doctor first encountered them in his second incarnation during The Invasion. When the Time Lords exiled the Doctor to Earth, he became the scientific advisor to their UK branch (Spearhead from Space), a position that he held during his third and fourth incarnations. He has encountered UNIT, or used connections from that era, on a number of occasions since then.
	Jackie Tyler	Jackie is Rose Tyler's mother, and is very protective of her daughter. She briefly met the Doctor in Rose, before Rose decided to leave with the Doctor. In Aliens of London, when Rose had been gone for an entire year, we saw her reaction to seeing Rose again after such a long time.
	Mickey	Mickey is Rose Tyler's boyfriend. In Rose, he was captured by the Nestene, and witnessed the Doctor and Rose defeating the Nestene, saw the inside of the TARDIS, and was there when Rose departed with the Doctor. Because he had trouble adapting to what had happened, the Doctor took a dislike to him. During the year that the Doctor was missing, Mickey discovered a lot about him and his impact from history.
	Other Characters	The majority of the characters we see in this story were also in the first part of the story, Aliens of London. We are briefly introduced to them in the pre-credits sequence.
Recommended Viewing:	As this is the second part of a 2-part story, I very strongly recommend that you watch the first part, Aliens of London, which introduces all the characters, and explains the details of what's going on. Rose's phone was upgraded by the Doctor in The End of the World (Series 1).
